John has over 30 years’ experience of LGPS investment as a fund manager, independent adviser, consultant and most recently a pool Officer. He spent most of his fund management career with UBS Asset Management, including five years as UK Chief Investment Officer. Since 2010 John has embraced plurality, including roles at various times as independent adviser to four LGPS funds, Partner at Aon Hewitt, Senior Adviser at MJ Hudson Allenbridge and Visiting Professor at Cass Business School.
In 2018 John served as Interim Chief Investment Officer at Border to Coast to help the pool establish its investment team. Between September 2019 and March 2020 he was Interim Chief Investment Officer at the British Airways Pension Fund overseeing the management of over £20 billion in pension fund assets.
John returned to Border to Coast as Interim Chief Investment Officer in 2022 handing on the role to a permanent successor at the start of 2023. He remains an Adviser to Border to Coast.
