Diane returned home to London in 2019 after serving two three-year terms as the Retirement Commissioner for New Zealand. A Cabinet appointment, the role reports to the Minister of Commerce and is responsible for reviewing Retirement Income Policy, addressing the challenges of an ageing population and the related issues of housing, health and savings, building financial capability, and monitoring the growing Retirement Villages sector.

A sought-after commentator internationally she has delivered keynote speeches at forums in the US, Australasia, Asia, Europe, and locally in the UK. She was also a member of the OECD International Network of Financial Educators for six years, collaborating across 42 countries.

Diane was previously Head of Stakeholder Management at the conduct regulator the Financial Markets Authority working on emerging regulatory themes, industry consultation and guidance, and representing NZ at IOSCO forums internationally.

Prior to FMA she was Head of Corporate Affairs at the Bank of New Zealand leading a portfolio of seven business units. Her role included policy work on legislative reform including AML, reviews of consumer credit, and changes to the Financial Advisers regime. Diane’s early career was in the fiercely competitive world of advertising in London.
